How to wash your dakimakura cover

Gentle handling matters when washing a printed pillow cover. This guide explains how to wash and dry your DakiHeaven cover, from removing the insert to putting it back inside once the cover is fully dry.

Check the cover first

• Remove the insert. These instructions are for the cover, not the filled pillow.
• Inspect the seams and zipper for damage.
• If a seam is loose or damaged, stop and ask us before washing it.
• Separate the cover from rough fabrics, hooks and other items that could catch the surface.

Can you machine-wash a dakimakura cover?

For hand washing: use cool water and a small amount of mild detergent suitable for the fabric. Gently move the cover through the water. Avoid scrubbing the print, twisting the cover or leaving it soaking for a long time. Rinse gently until the detergent is removed.

For machine washing: use cold water on a delicate cycle with mild, bleach-free detergent. Turn the cover inside out and place it in a laundry bag.

Avoid bleach and harsh stain treatments. For a mark that will not lift with gentle cleaning, ask us for advice before trying a stronger product.

How do you dry a dakimakura cover?

1. Gently press out excess water without wringing. A clean towel can help absorb moisture without twisting the cover.
2. Air-dry with the fabric supported, away from direct heat and strong sunlight. Do not tumble-dry or iron the cover.
3. Wait until the cover is fully dry before putting the insert back inside.
4. Feed the insert in gradually and keep fabric clear of the zipper. Stop if it catches rather than pulling harder.

Wash according to use and the condition of the cover. There is no single schedule that suits a display cover and one used every night.
